PHOTONIS USA Nets Prism Award for Photonic Innovation

Sturbridge, MA -  PHOTONIS USA, a leading electro-optic component manufacturer, is pleased to announce that the company has been awarded a Prism Award for Photonics Innovation in the category of Information and Communication.  PHOTONIS netted the award for its Optical Communications Receiver product in a ceremony held on January 26, 2011 at the SPIE/Photonics West Conference in San Francisco, CA.

The Prism Awards for Photonics Innovation is an international competition for companies that recognize photonics products that break conventional ideas, solve problems, and improve life with photonics.  The PHOTONIS Optical Communications Detector was engineered to provide greater optical communication speeds using a photomultiplier tube without degradation in signal.  The new Optical Communications Detector achieves this goal by providing a large detection area in order to optimize the sensitivity, while still enabling the detector to approach speeds of 2GHz.  An anode redesign allowed a reduction in the voltage, providing a 3-5x improvement over other photomultiplier tubes on the market.  A patent application for this product has been submitted.

PHOTONIS Technologies President and CEO, Goossen Boers, said, “We are honored to have won such a prestigious award, and are proud of the efforts of our entire team, from innovation through to manufacturing, to bring this product to market.”

PHOTONIS is a multinational high-technology group, with more than 40 years experience in manufacture, sales and innovation, specializing in photo sensor technology. The Group operates internationally in the Night Vision, Industrial, Scientific and Medical Imaging markets. PHOTONIS USA designs and manufactures a wide range of custom and standard components and assemblies for mass spectroscopy as well as other medical, bio-medical and scientific instruments and holds several patents in these fields.
