New Technology Innovations Improve Performance of Image Intensifier Tubes
Roden, NL – PHOTONIS, a market leader in night vision electro-optic technologies, successfully exhibited at the recent Defense & Security Equipment International (DSEi), September 13-16 at the ExCel Center in London. On display were a number of innovations to PHOTONIS’ proprietary image intensifier tubes, designed and enhanced to bring a greater clarity of vision than ever before.
PHOTONIS combines a long history of night vision innovation with an on-going research and development program to elevate the quality and performance of its image intensifier tubes. On display at DSEi was the newly improved PHOTONIS XR5TM Image Intensifer Tube. The XR5TM is equipped with Auto-Gating technology, designed to protect a soldier’s eyesight in the event of a sudden light burst. Auto-Gating detects sudden changes in light intensity and electronically reacts, at speeds faster than the reaction of a human eye, to preserve 90% of the Modular Transfer Function and reduce halos. This greatly improves the soldier’s ability to use his night vision during and immediately after the event.
Also on display from PHOTONIS was the ONYX Image Intensifier Tube, which provides night vision images in black and white, rather than the traditional green phosphor. The black and white image allows for better depth perception as the images appear more normal to the human eye, and the clarity of small details improves situation awareness even in rocky or desert applications. Additional image intensifiers and other electro-optic accessories were also on display at the PHOTONIS booth at DSEi.
“The proprietary technology of PHOTONIS has benefitted from continual design enhancements that bring significant improvements to night vision”, said PHOTONIS Chief Marketing Officer Emmanuel Nabet. “In many cases, the soldier can enjoy improved resolution and much better images than in many Generation 3 image intensifier tubes.”
